A Houston man was arrested Monday after he reportedly killed his 9-month-old daughter while sexually assaulting her.
What We Know:
- Harris County Sheriff officials stated that they received a call from a Houston apartment multiplex at 12:20 a.m., located at 15035, for a non-responsive baby.
- As officials arrived on the scene, they discovered baby Savayah Mason, 9-months-old, and attempted to save her. Sadly, the infant was pronounced dead once she was seen at a local hospital.
- As investigators started looking into the cause of her death, medical examiners discovered a very alarming clue. According to the sheriff’s office, the Harris County Institute of Forensics discovered in the autopsy that the baby had been sexually assaulted and died due to asphyxiation during the attack.
- The father of baby Savayah, Luis Luna, 23, was interrogated by officials, and deputies soon established he was the one who murdered the innocent baby. Other evidence was retrieved when a search warrant was performed a day after her death.
- Luna resided at the apartment complex alongside his three brothers court documents reveal. Prosecutor’s state that the baby’s mother left baby Savayah with her dad on Aug. 21st. The prosecutor’s also stated Luna mentioned to the investigators Savayah had never left his sight when the baby was staying with him.
- Police state that Luna claimed he woke up and found his daughter non-responsive and attempted to administer CPR. Luna also informed investigators the baby would sleep in her car seat next to his air mattress, court documents reveal.
Luis Luna is currently being charged with capital murder charges for his daughter’s death, since the victim is younger than 9-years-old.
