A 6.0-magnitude earthquake hit the Asian island at 5:28 AM on Thursday.
What We Know:
- A 60-year-old woman was killed after a closet fell on her during the quake, ABS-CBN reported.
- The quake shook the island’s capital, Taipei.
- Thousands of homes were left without power after the natural disaster. This quake is mild in comparison to the 1999 7.6-magnitude earthquake that killed more than 2,400 people on the island.
- Another 4.6-magnitude earthquake hit Yilan, at 7:02 AM.

- The island is also bracing for the impact of typhoon Lekima, which is expected to hit Thursday evening.
- The typhoon is expected to bring 150 mph winds, strong waves, and heavy rainfall. Taiwan’s Central Weather Bureau has issued a weather advisory to its citizens in anticipation of the powerful storm.
