Biden loses top financiers Support After controversial comments

Top financier drops Biden over his controversial comments and underwhelming debate performance.

What We Know:

  • Tom McInerney, a San Francisco lawyer, pulled his funding from Biden’s 2020 campaign. He told CNBC, “I had actually let the campaign known I’d pulled back my support of Biden for now,” Referring to Biden’s performance at the debate on Thursday, he said, “I don’t think he did well last night.”
  • Biden has landed in hot water after he recounted working with segregationist lawmakers during his time in the Senate. He stated, “At least there was some civility. We got things done. We didn’t agree on much of anything. Today, you look at the other side and you’re the enemy.”
  • During the debate, Sen. Kamala Harris brought up Biden’s opposition of bussing to desegregated schools. She asked if he felt his stance on the issue was wrong. He responded, “I did not oppose busing in America. What I opposed is busing ordered by the Department of Education, that’s what I opposed.”This exchange cast doubt on Biden’s understanding of race relations.
  • Another issue some Democrats have with Biden is his shifting views on abortion funding. He has recently stated that he supports the repeal of the Hyde Amendment which prohibits federal funding of abortions except in cases of rape, incest or if the mother’s life is at risk. In the past, he has supported the Hyde Amendment, but at an event, in May he told the crowd that he did not support the law. He later backtracked, his campaign reported that he misheard the question. He clarified that he still supported the Hyde Amendment. After receiving criticism for his stance, he tweeted, “Women’s rights and health care are under assault in a way that seeks to roll back every step of progress we’ve made over the last 50 years. If I believe health care is a right, as I do, I can no longer support an amendment that makes that right dependent on someone’s zip code.”

Biden’s controversies and change views have him losing supports and funds.
