The University of Southern California offers tree tuition to undergraduate students from families making $80K or less.
What We Know:
- The tuition changes are planned to begin for the first-year students entering USC in the Fall of 2020 and the Spring of 2021. About one-third of new students in Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 will benefit from the program. Each eligible undergraduate student will receive up to $45,000 more in financial aid.
- According to U.S Census data, The $80,000 threshold is comfortably above California’s median household income of about $71,000.
- According to USC, two-thirds of its undergraduates receive financial aid and more than 21% of the undergraduates are from low-income families.
- The University says tuition for the 2019-2020 academic year costs nearly $57,256. Room and board for the same academic year are estimated at nearly $16,000.
- Even after adding the additional fees, housing, meal plans, books, school supplies, transportation, etc, the cost boosts up to $77,459.
- They will no longer be considering homeownership when calculating a student’s financial aid. Students living with their parents or relative’s total estimate would total nearly $64,715.
- “With this new initiative, we will be even better positioned to recruit students from all backgrounds and strengthen the USC experience for everyone,” said USC Provost Charles F. Zukoski.
Prices, in general, have already gone up a lot in California, so this is a big step in helping students succeed.
