Coming To America is not the only film sequel scheduled to roll out. Actor Eddie Murphy confirms that he will return on screen with Beverly Hills Cop 4 after Coming to America 2 wraps up.
What We Know:
- Murphy sat down in an exclusive interview with Collider, to discuss Dolemite Is My Name which was released in theaters last weekend on limited release and will begin streaming on Netflix on October 25.
- During the interview, Murphy was asked about Saturday Night Live and Beverly Hills Cop 4. Murphy was a cast member on SNL from 1980-1984. Collider reports that he was largely responsible for the show’s success during some of its’ unpromising times for character portrayals such as Buckwheat, Mister Robinson, Gumby, and great impressions of Bill Cosby, Sammy Davis Jr., Stevie Wonder and many others. Since his exit from SNL in 1984, Murphy has not returned to host or participate in any sketches. That will all change soon, Murphy will return to host the show’s Christmas episode on December 21st.
- In addition to SNL, Murphy was asked about Beverly Hills Cop 4 rumors and here is what he had to say: “Yeah that’s what we’re doing after Coming to America 2. We’re doing Beverly Hills Cop and then the plan is to get back on stage and do standup. That’s what I’ll be doing mostly is standup. These movies and Saturday Night Live it’s kind of like…I’m looking at it as a bookend. If I decided I wanted to stay on the couch forever, I ended it on a funny note.”
With Murphy’s past comedic sketches riddled with what are now extremely controversial topics, we can anticipate what he’ll bring to the SNL stage later in the year.
