Did You Know There’s A Durag Festival In North Carolina? Here’s What To Know – Travel Noire

The Culture constantly comes up with creative ways to celebrate itself. On June 24, Duragfest goes down in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The founders, Lisa Michelle and Dammit Wesley aim to “serve the culture by supporting the culture.” Profits from the festival will go in part to Project Rough Cuts, an organization that elevates the digital arts in Black and brown communities.

Like New York’s CURLFEST, Duragfest makes no apologies for centering Blackness. In these times especially, events like it are critical for community building.

What’s The Location And Time?

Duragfest goes down at Camp North End in Charlotte, NC from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. You can enjoy live entertainment, network and bring the little ones to select spaces.

What About The Tickets?

As of now, the VIP experience is sold out. VIP guests get their own entrance, access to the VIP bar and viewing area, access to the VIP lounge and restrooms, and a VIP chef experience. They also receive a commemorative Durag Festival collectible.

Two other tiers of tickets remain available—General Admission and General Admission Plus. The first grants access to the Durag market, the art exhibition, and the food vendors. The second includes general admission perks plus access to the day party and concert on the main stage, the skate party, a full-service bar, and the pop-up art exhibition. Note that the cost of skate rentals and drink vouchers aren’t included.

There Are Events Preceding Duragfest

Starting June 18, Duragfest will be hosting several free and ticketed events.

Some of them are the RnB Rooftop Party (June 18), Midday Mimosas (June 19), and a free screening of perhaps the Blackest animated film ever made by Disney, A Goofy Movie (June 22).

After Duragfest, be sure to get your tickets for the after-party as well.
