*Netflix has released the trailer for Mo’Nique’s comedy special titled “My Name Is Monique,” and the project comes nearly a year after the comedian and the streamer reached a settlement in her gender discrimination lawsuit.

“Why did I title this special ‘My Name Is Mo’Nique?’ After seventy-two minutes y’all gonna know why…” the entertainer says in the trailer while teasing some behind-the-scenes footage.

“Y’all might say, ‘Damn, we didn’t know we were going to find out all of that!’ Mo continued. “This one right here is personal. This one right here — when you walk away from this one, when you turn your TV off from this one, you’ll say, ‘Now we understand that woman.’”

She also expresses gratitude for the gift of being “funny.”

“This show right here really allows you to understand why I swing like I swing,” she said. “There are things that I’m going to say in this comedy special that I thought I would take to my grave, that they were mine. They were my thoughts. They were my secrets. It was just mine. Before I was just focused on being funny. Now I feel like I have something to say.”

“My Name is Mo’Nique” is directed by L. Frazier, with Mo’Nique and her husband Sidney Hicks serving as executive producers.

As Urban Hollywood 411 reports, here’s the official description: “Mo’Nique delivers a career-defining, powerhouse stand-up performance in her unprecedented return to the stage. Filled with laugh till you cry stories as well as soul bearing emotion, Mo’Nique promises that by the end of the show you will understand why she is the way she is, and true to form, she delivers. From the mean streets of Baltimore and remembering her Grandma Mimi’s warnings about men, to why she ‘accepts’ the sometimes-harsh realities that come with life, Mo’Nique with her unique brand of candor, fearlessness, and humor reveals all of herself, and leaves nothing on the table.”

“My Name is Mo’Nique” premieres globally on Netflix April 4.
