Best Super Bowl 2023 Commercials: Why Tubi, Diddy, Cardi B & Offset Had The Internet In A Chokehold

Super Bowl 2023 was another year of an exciting game and unforgettable commercials. A few of the most talked about commercials were from the streaming service Tubi, the Uber One commercial starring the one and only Diddy, and Cardi B and Offset’s McDonald’s commercial, just in time for Valentine’s Day. Advertisers bet big that viewers would turn to the Super Bowl for a comforting escape, and they delivered a series of ads featuring familiar celebrity faces, light humor, and plenty of cute dogs.

This year, Tubi had everyone scrambling for the remote control after their commercial tricked viewers into thinking they changed the channel.

The Super Bowl LVII broadcast appeared to be returning from a commercial break in the 15-second spot titled “Interface Interruption,” with Fox Sports announcers Kevin Burkhardt and Greg Olsen. But then it appeared that the screen had been taken over by someone scrolling over to the Tubi TV app and searching through the streaming service’s library for something to watch.

Listen, lots of people got yelled at and blamed during that commercial.

”No, you didn’t sit on the remote,” Tubi wrote in the video’s caption on YouTube. “But on Super Bowl Sunday, we fooled audiences into thinking they did.”

Well played, Tubi.

Uber One dropped a 30-second commercial starring Sean “Diddy” Combs to entice customers to join its Uber One membership program. The Uber One program offers discounts on Uber and Uber Eats services, as well as other perks and special offers.

In the clip, the billionaire meets with Uber executives at his Combs Global headquarters, where he is tasked with creating “one hit for Uber One.” Diddy then enlists the help of celebrities like Montell Jordan, Donna Lewis, Kelis, and others to recreate their biggest hits for the commercial. It’s hilarious.

Another ad that grabbed viewers’ attention:

McDonald’s tapped one of Hip Hop’s biggest couples for their Super Bowl ad this year, proving to be perfect advertising for the upcoming Valentine’s Day holiday. The fast-food chain tapped eight couples, including celebrity couple Cardi B and Offset, to announce a special meal-for-two deal.

The “Cardi B & Offset meal,” which will be available for a limited time on Valentine’s Day, includes a cheeseburger with BBQ sauce and a large Coke (Cardi B’s choice) and a Quarter Pounder with Cheese and a large Hi-C Orange Lavaburst (Offset’s choice), as well as a large order of fries and an apple pie to share.

In another commercial (or two):

While she may have “evolved” away from tennis, Serena Williams still made an appearance during one of sports’ biggest nights by starring in not one, but two commercials.

The tennis GOAT made her first appearance at Super Bowl LVII in the first quarter, in a commercial for Remy Martin cognac, in which she delivered Al Pacino’s epic speech from the film Any Given Sunday, in which the actor tries to bring a fractured team back together during halftime. Watch the clip above.

In another spot…

Serena starred in a Michelob ULTRA commercial, which highlights how golf is making its way into mainstream culture. Peep the clip above.

As for a commercial that pulled on the heart strings…

The Farmer’s Dog, a dog food brand that was founded to offer a fresh-food alternative, won the night with their spot that featured a chocolate lab and a girl who loved him traveling a 60-second journey through life. The puppy, dubbed Bear, lives on as the young protagonist, Ava, grows through childhood, college, and eventually has her own child.

Bear is still around, seemingly, because Ava’s family had the foresight to feed him food that is superior to the ultra-processed kibble that its competitors produce. The clip was perfect. Check out the emotional clip above.
