American actress, singer, and television personality Keke Palmer has been cast to star in a role for the highly anticipated reboot of the upcoming animated family sitcom reboot “The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder.”

What We Know:

  • Palmer will voice the character of 14-year-old Maya Leibowitz-Jenkins, a socially conscious activist who isn’t afraid to stand on her own, in the future reboot of the hit early 2000’s show.
  • She recently joined the cast and executive producers in a virtual reunion of this fresh and new cartoon series, during the NAACP’s Arts, Culture & Entertainment Festival on Thursday.

  • They all gathered to talk about the show’s previous cultural impact, going a bit down memory lane and giving some insight on what to expect on this brand new series that will be exclusive to Disney+ streaming platform.
  • Like many millennials and families who shared the same watching experience, Palmer grew up with the show and loved it. “It was a part of my childhood, and one of my favorite things, I have to say, has always been that theme song. I know every single word whenever it comes on,” Palmer stated.

“All my life I’ve been trying to get a chance to act alongside Kyla and I finally got it in animation,” Palmer contently added.

  • Palmer was joined by Tommy Davidson, Paula Jai Parker, Jo Marie Payton, Cedric the Entertainer, and Kyla Pratt, who voiced Penny Proud, along with guest appearances from series’ creators and executive producers, Bruce W. Smith and Ralph Farquhar.
  • Its predecessor, “Proud Family,” aired for a solid four years on the Disney Channel. About 15 years later, the series is still regarded for its cultured impact. Many themes in the show dealt with Black culture, family, Kwanzaa, and even segregation.

The “Proud Family” reboot will continue its legacy of promoting multiculturalism, with its talented team consisting of two female directors. “The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder” is currently still in production, and no release date has been given as of late.
