Video Captures Moment Hero Dog Stopped Traffic During Owner’s Seizure

Clover, a year-and-a-half Maremma mix, is being recognized as a hero in Canadian media.

What We Know:

  • Last Tuesday, Haley Moore was walking Clover through their town of Stittsville, Ottawa, when she suddenly began to seize. The dog understood Moore was having an epileptic attack because, according to Psychology Today, seizure-predicting dogs can smell the organic compounds excreted during an episode.
  • Moore’s neighbor’s security camera recorded the incident. It shows Clover tending to her owner, then seeing a car pass by an unconscious Moore. When the next car stopped by, Clover removed herself from her leash and ran into traffic.
  • The Maremma blocked a truck and forced its driver, Dryden Oatway, to stop.

“It was really impressive, the dog actually blocked my way. She kind of backed into the road to block my truck” said Oatway.

  • While Oatway left his truck and tried to get another neighbor to help Moore, the dog stopped another driver. Danielle Pilon got out of her car and began asking for tips on assistance. Once Oatway and Pilon were with Moore, Clover went back to the Moore residence to notify the rest of the family.
  • Randall Moore, Haley’s father, said neighbors were knocking frantically and Clover was barking loudly outside his door. Randall went out to find Haley, and by the time he was there, paramedics were tending her.
  • Haley told CTV News that she had no clue what happened. She only remembers waking up inside the ambulance. However, she was grateful that Clover was with her when the incident occurred. “If this ends up happening again, I feel 10 times safer and I know she will be there for me,” mentioned Haley.

Randall informed CTV that the Moore family was indebted to Clover for her actions. Because of her bravery, they made her a delicious steak dinner. He also said that they now truly understand the special bond between dogs and humans.
