The 18-year-old is accused of murdering two people and wounding a third.
What We Know:
- Kyle Rittenhouse is being accused of murdering two protestors and injuring a third person at a protest last year. The trial date has been pushed back and could possibly be delayed even longer. The trial was originally scheduled to begin on March 29th, but both sides of the case claim they need more time to prepare evidence. The trial date is currently set for November 1st.
- On the night of the protest, Rittenhouse opened fire on Joseph Rosenbaum, Anthony Huber, and Gaige Grosskreutz. Grosskreutz was the only survivor as Rosenbaum and Huber succumbed to gunshot wounds. Rittenhouse had been roaming around the protest when he claims he was attacked by the three protestors. It was only then that he fired on them, arguing he only shot them in self-defense.
- Rittenhouse was released from jail after posting his $2 million bail last year in November. Conservative groups and supporters of Rittenhouse all worked together to garner the amount. An attorney set up the payment for Rittenhouse and then a private security detail transported him from the jail that afternoon. Rittenhouse has since then violated several stipulations of his bond.
- Wisconsin prosecutors have recently issued a warrant for Rittenhouse’s arrest after he allegedly violated conditions of his bond. The motion also asks the court to increase his bond to $200,000. After his original release in November, Rittenhouse was instructed to notify the court should he ever change his address. After receiving numerous threats on his life, Rittenhouse was moved by authorities to an undisclosed safe house.
It appears as if Wisconsin prosecutors are now pursuing additional charges against Kyle Rittenhouse for violating the terms of his bond.
