Doctors, NBA Coaches And Texas Business Owners Slam Gov. Greg Abbott For lifting Covid Mandates

Several Texas Doctors, Coaches, and Business Owners are criticizing the Governers decision to lower COVID restrictions.

What We Know:

  • Greg Abbott, Governor of Texas, has declared an executive order that eliminates all of his previous covid restrictions. The decision was delivered Tuesday as Abbot made clear that all businesses will be allowed to fully open to the public. The executive order is scheduled to go into effect starting next week. In addition to the governor’s executive order, he has also eliminated the state-wide mask mandate.

  • According to reports, many figures ranging from doctors to business owners have publicly criticized the governers actions as “premature” or “ignorant.” Dr. James McDeavitt, a Health official at The Baylor College Of Medicine, said that masking and social distancing were crucial factors in increasing immunity to the virus. It was also noted that McDeavitt said, “I think the governor’s decision was premature,” and “We’re still seeing 1,000 new cases per day in Houston. We’re getting some 200 new covid-19 patients per day in the hospitals.”
  • An article by NBC featured Greg Popovich, a reputable coach of The San Antonio Spurs, refers to the governor’s decision as “Mysterious.” The coach can be seen expressing his sympathy for the potential infections that he believes will lead to yet another surge of cases here in the lone star state. “I’m worried about the people of our state,” and “That’s a pretty mystifying decision considering the situation we’re all in” were some comments Popovich made in regards to Abbot’s choice.
  • Reports also show that President Joesph Biden has demonstrated that he disagrees with Abbott’s leadership choices. “The last thing we need is a neanderthal thinking in the meantime everything is fine, take off your mask,” was a comment expressed by Biden to the media on Wednesday during a meeting in the oval office. Biden believes that the American people and elected officials should know by now that mask works.

Abbot’s executive order goes into effect next Wednesday. He believes that the removal of the mandate shouldn’t keep Texans from keeping up with their personal responsibility of spreading the virus. He believes that they do not need government assistance in making the right decisions to keep themselves and their loved ones safe.
