After a year of engagement to actor Jamie Lincoln Smith, This is Us star Susan Kelechi Watson says she is single.
What We Know:
- The 38-year-old actress indicated the split on her Instagram story while celebrating the predicted victory of President-elect Joe Biden. She also congratulated the Vice-President to be Kamala Harris on making “HERSTORY”. As the cherry on top of the win she added, “And I thought becoming Single was gonna be the only eventful thing to happen to me this year. #TwentyTwenty”.
- The two announced their engagement just last year September. Watson flaunted a large cushion cut sapphire stone on a diamond band on Instagram with the caption “Forever Ever…” followed by a poem, “‘They’ll say its love And they’ll know its love For when they call its name it will answer to love Without hesitation’ ~me.” The IG posted has since been deleted. Her ex-fiance Smith also made a post, now deleted, revealing news of the engagement last September.
- Two months after Smith’s proposal, the This Is Us star dished about the details on A Little Late with Lilly Singh. She said she knew it was coming, but did not know exactly when. Watson says her ex surprised her with a trip to a cannabis festival in attempt to throw her off. He told her they were going to learn how to put medicinal weed in brownies and she had to make sure to look cute for the event. They arrived at a glasshouse church where Watson’s confusion set in. While walking into the church she had the realization that something special was about to happen. The couple dated for 5 years prior to the engagement and ultimate split.
- The award-winning series returned with a fifth season this October. Beth Pearson, portrayed by Watson, is married to Sterling K. Brown’s character Randall Pearson. They are one of the longest lasting fan-favorite couples within the show. The two share the screen with co-stars Mandy Moore, Milo Ventimiglia, Chrissy Metz, and Justin Hartley.
Watson and Smith are not new to maintaining private personal lives. Her subtle announcement of her updated relationship status seems to be all we can get for now. At the moment, there is zero clarity for why the split occurred.
