FBI Arrests Epstein Co-Conspirator Ghislaine Maxwell

The FBI has arrested Jeffrey Epstein’s long-time friend Ghislaine Maxwell in New Hampshire on federal charges of “conspiring” and “lying” for him to sexually abuse children. The wealthy British socialite is being held with six-counts in Manhattan federal court.

What We Know:

  • The arrest comes just days before the first anniversary of the late Jeffrey Epstein’s arrest on child sex trafficking charges. His death was ruled out as a “suicide”.
  • At this time, prosecutors are asking for Ghislaine Maxwell to be held without bond due to being “an extreme flight risk” and having many international connections, a citizenship in Britain and France, passports from the U.S., and large sums of money.
  • The news of her arrest has captured attention on Twitter due to the speculation that Ghislaine Maxwell can reveal the names of the many who were involved in the sex trafficking ring.

  • Before the FBI started their investigation, Maxwell was a former girlfriend of Epstein who managed his properties and has been accused by the victims of helping “him to acquire a steady stream of young women to satisfy his compulsive obsession with receiving several ‘massages each day'”.

  • According to officials, the 156-acre property where Maxwell was arrested was bought for $1 million in December by a “limited liability corporation” that hid the identity of the person behind the purchase.

“continuing to live a life of privilege while her victims live with the trauma inflicted upon them years ago.”

  • However, Maxwell denies participating in any legal activity even though many of the victims place her presence during the sexual assaults as well as participating.
  • The indictment not only placed Maxwell during the assaults but also accused her of grooming the victims and encouraging girls to accept Epstein’s offers to pay for their education, causing them to feel indebted to him.

The ongoing investigation has been a long fought battle since the early 2000s against the couple. The sudden death of Epstein caused different theories and did not help the victims receive closure. However, Maxwell’s arrest has been a relief for many of the victims on the path to justice.
