  • Crop burning is seen as the major cause of this pollution. Satellite imaging showed more than 3,000 incidents of stubble burning in neighboring states last week.
  • The air quality index measured 900 areas and determined they were exceeding the level 25 rated by WHO. More than 30 flights were canceled due to the smog. Many schools and government projects stopped until Tuesday. Hospitals received an increase in patients due to people suffering from respiratory issues. Masks are now a common tool people use and some prefer to stay inside when they can.
  • Many Delhi citizens have been suffering from the pollution in the air, Sachin Mathur is an auto-rickshaw driver who stays outside for work. He stated “I have been driving auto on Delhi roads for the last three years and every year this time after Diwali, Delhi becomes like this,” Mathur said. “I am suffering from a throat infection and my eyes are burning. The pollution means I do not get many passengers, so going to a doctor is not affordable.”

Citizens had to wait two days for assistance from the government due to weather conditions.
