Amazon Makes Grocery Delivery Service Free For U.S Prime Members

On Tuesday, Amazon announced that Prime members now get free and fast grocery delivery from Amazon Fresh and Whole Foods Market.

What We Know:

  • Amazon Fresh used to cost $14.99 per month, but now customers in many markets can order bother perishable and pantry items with one and two-hour delivery windows with no additional membership fee, according to Forbes.
  • Amazon has made the competition a bit harder for their competitors such as Walmart, Publix, and delivery companies like Postmates.
  • In the U.S about a year ago, it was estimated in a separate report that Amazon accounted for about one-third of all grocery delivery in the U.S.
  • Amazon is going after the grocery business because they want to illuminate the company’s overall retail approach, and where it sees future opportunities existing.

Last month, Walmart announced that it would be expanding its $98/year Delivery Unlimited service, which is a cheaper deal than Amazon’s up until Amazon’s Tuesday deal.
