Senator Bernie Sanders postponed all campaign events following a procedure for a blocked artery.
What We Know:
- Bernie Sanders had surgery for a blocked artery in Las Vegas. His team says that he was traveling to a gun forum in Las Vegas before his scheduled visit to California later on in the week.
- The 2020 candidate canceled all events and appearances until further notice. According to Jeff Weaver, a senior advisor for Sanders he is “conversing and in good spirits.” He will be resting for the next few days, and his campaign plans to provide updates about his health.
- Weaver released a statement saying, “During a campaign event yesterday evening, Sen. Sanders experienced some chest discomfort. Following medical evaluation, he was found to have a blockage in one artery and two stents were successfully inserted.”
- Sanders’ campaign recently planned to launch a $1.3 million advertising push, but it has been postponed due to Sanders’ recent health problems. Many fellow candidates wished him well-wishes on Twitter including Elizabeth Warren, Pete Buttigieg, Kamala Harris, Cory Booker, and Andrew Yang, Joe Biden.
With the upcoming 2020 race being so tight who knows what this news will mean for Sanders and his campaign.
.@DrBiden and I are sending our best wishes to @BernieSanders, Jane, and the whole Sanders family. Anyone who knows Bernie understands what a force he is. We are confident that he will have a full and speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him on the trail soon.
