On Wednesday, 23 Army soldiers were injured during a training exercise that went wrong at Camp Shelby in Mississippi.
What We Know:
- WDAM reported the incident happened after 8 p.m. when members of the 4th Brigade of the 25th Infantry Division parachuted from a C-130 plane. Strong winds blew the troops off course leaving some stuck in pine trees.
- The Mississippi National Guard released a statement about the accident saying, “At 8:00 P.M. this evening the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, United States Army Alaska, conducted an Airborne Operation on Camp Shelby Joint Forces Training Center, Hattiesburg, Miss., with approximately 650 Soldiers jumping in to begin at ten-day training exercise. We are still consolidating soldiers on the drop zone at this time.”
- Eighteen of the injured soldiers were treated at Forrest General Hospital and four of the other troops are in stable condition.

A Facebook post from the 4th Brigade of the 25th Infantry Division explained the training will go on. The post states, “Once all Soldiers have been accounted for, our goal is ultimately to continue training. Despite the challenges that we currently face, Soldiers always place the mission first.”
Thankfully, there were no serious injuries.
