A Nashville mom is under fire and facing criminal charges after helping assault a teenage girl alongside her daughter.
What We Know:
- Prior to the attack, the victim was waiting for the school bus to arrive at around 8:30 a.m to attend school. Kalina Gaines (30) and her daughter approached the teen and that’s when the assault began. Police say Gaines ordered her daughter to attack the victim at the school’s bus stop near Murfreesboro Pike and Borrowood, as reported by The Tennessean.
- Students captured video footage of the assault on their cellphones as they recorded the incident from the school bus. The video showed the pair pinning the teen down as they both assaulted her, followed by Gaines pinning the girl down so her daughter could attack. According to the victim, she was both kicked and struck in the face by Gaines. The police stated that the two assaulted the victim dozens of times throughout the brawl.
- Police believe the attack is related to a previous disagreement between the teens earlier in the week. The ages of the two teens are unknown.
- Police arrested Kalina Gaines following the incident, and transported her to the Metro Nashville Jail. Police have now released Gaines from their custody on $7,500 bond. Gaines was charged with assault and her court hearing will be held next month.
It’s unfortunate that adults are initiating violence against children rather than helping deescalate situations like this. As parents, they should set a positive example for children.
