‘House Party’ Remake In The Works

The film series “House Party” was one for the culture, the first part made its’ debut March 9, 1990, with a cast full of talented black actors and actresses.

What We Know:

  • The film includes Hip-Hop Duo Kid’N’Play, Tisha Campbell-Martin (Sydney) better known as “Gina” and Adrienne-Joi Johnson as Sharane. The film follows a group of friends as they prepare for an epic house party that leads to an unforeseen wild night.
  • Back in February of 2018, Variety reported that NBA star Lebron James and SpringHill Entertainment partner, Maverick Carter, were developing a remake of the 1990’s film “House Party” for New Line. James launched SpringHill Entertainment in 2013 and is set to produce the reboot.
  • ‘Old Town Road’ director Calmatic, will make his feature-film debut by participating in the classic remake. Calmatic has directed music videos for Anderson .Paak, Khalid and Vince Staples. The South Central Los Angeles native is touted as a “filmmaker, historian and artist,”.
  • “House Party,” produced with a budget of $2.5 million was a major success for New Line, earning $26.4 million at the box office. The studio then released “House Party 2” in 1991 and “House Party 3” in 1994. The original still holds down the title of a “classic” with an overall rating of 96 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.
  • The screenplay was written by Atlanta writers, Stephen Glover and Jamal Olori, so this film will be even more “for the culture” than before.

As of now, there is no word on casting and the timeline for the film’s rollout yet we are hopeful that the original cast will be in the mix.
