- According to Standard UK, if passed, rebel MPs would take control of the Parliamentary agenda and force Prime Minister Boris Johnson to seek a delay to the UK’s withdrawal from the European Union until January 31, preventing a no-deal Brexit on October 31.
- MPs seized control of parliament and the Brexit agenda.
- Johnson lost the key vote by 328-301 and his majority backed moves to pass an emergency law to stop a no-deal Brexit.
- To call an election, Johnson would need the support of two-thirds of MPs under the Fixed Term Parliaments Act of 2011.
- “Boris Johnson’s plan to hold an early general election as an escape route out of Westminster’s paralysis was undermined in Wednesday morning when the opposition Labour party confirmed it would not back the move,” according to ft.com.
