CONTINUING COVERAGE: Lineup of ABC News Dem Debate has been Announced. Only 10 Candidates

Only ten democratic presidential candidates will participate in the upcoming ABC debate.

What We Know:

  • The roster is quite small considering there are still 20 candidates in the running for the 2020 primary; In order to qualify for the debate, the Democratic National Committee necessitated qualifying candidates receive 2 percent or more support in at least four national polls or polls in Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina or Denver.
  • Amy Klobuchar, Cory Booker, Pete Buttigieg, Bernie Sanders, Joe Biden, Elizabeth Warren, Kamala Harris, Andrew Yang, Beto O’Rourke and Julián Castro have all qualified for the debate. The campaigns were notified of their qualification Thursday with the podium order, which was determined by polling averages of 10 polls certified by the DNC; The candidates with the highest polling will stand near the center of the stage.
  • ABC will host the third Democratic primary debate September 12, this time for one night only. The event will be hosted in partnership with Univision and moderated by George Stephanopoulos and David Muir. The debate, which will take place at Texas Southern University, can be streamed or watched live on ABC News Live and Hulu Live.

Studies have shown that these primaries are, indeed, affecting voter opinions as performance in debates is affecting polling.
