On Sunday morning, Serena Williams had to leave the Rogers Cup tennis tournament in Toronto due to back spasms.
What We Know:
- Williams’ back pains began Saturday night during her semifinal match with Marie Bouzkova, and the pain became worse overnight, CNN stated.
- Williams stated, “My whole back just completely spasmed and to a point where I couldn’t sleep and I couldn’t really move.”
- Her 19 year old opponent, Bianca Andreescu took the title but immediately turned to Willams to comfort her instead of celebrating her success.
- Andreescu stated, “I started tearing up because she was tearing up. It’s because I know how she feels, injuries really, really suck.”
Williams would have played better if there were more time for her treatment between matches, but unfortunately WTA tournaments are played on consecutive days.
