Simone Biles Makes History Again!

Olympic medalist Simone Biles has done it again!

What We Know:

  • Biles has been participating in the U.S. Gymnastics Championships for the past seven years and this past weekend, in Kansas City, Missouri, she won the all-around title.
  • Her first historic moment was on Friday when she became the first gymnast to attempt and land a double-twisting, double somersault dismount in a match. In fact, the dismount was so iconic that it will be named after her once she completes it during an international meet, Team USA said in a press release. It would be the third skill named after the 22-year-old.
  • Although she attempted to do this in her first exercise, she didn’t finish clean. It was her second try that had the judges in awe. “I’m still really upset about the floor,” she stated. “I did end on a good note, so that makes me happy. But I’m still disappointed about the floor.”
  • Additionally, during her floor exercises, she became the first gymnast to attempt and land a triple-double in competition. That’s two flips and three twists in the air.
  • “I still get really frustrated because I know how good I am and how well I can do,” Biles admitted, “so I just want to do the best routine for the audience and for myself out here.” This mentality is why she’s the most decorated U.S. gymnast of all time. Including her recently won title, Simone has now won 21 all-around titles in the past year.

Keep setting an example for our future, Simone! We’re proud of you!
