Pose Actress Angelica Ross to Star in American Horror Story: 1984

Pose star Angelica Ross will join the cast of American Horror Story: 1984, making her the first trans actor to secure two series regular roles on television.

What We Know:

  • Creator of both American Horror Story and Pose, Ryan Murphy, announced Ross’s move in an Instagram post on Wednesday, July 10, just one day after Ross’s character was killed off Pose. “Though she will always be our Candy, and our show suffers this incredible loss, I am elated that the world will get much more Angelica… Congrats Angelica for making history,” Murphy said.

  • In addition to her boundary-breaking success as a trans actress, Ross is also the founder of TransTech Social Enterprises, a company that provides impoverished people with technical training, and the President of Ms. Ross Inc. Ross is an awarded activist for the trans community; she engages directly with communities in need and consults globally for organizational change to encourage trans success.
  • Murphy gave fans their first sneak peek of the new season, the theme of which is ’80s slasher films, in an Instagram post that reveals the 1984 cast. The cast includes AHS veterans Emma Roberts, Gus Kenworthy, Cody Fern, Billie Lourd, John Carroll Lynch and Leslie Grossman. Joining the cast is Matthew Morrison of Glee, DeRon Horton of Dear White People, and Zach Villa of Shameless.

  • Only a teaser trailer has been released for the show so far, and fans speculate some sort of connection to George Orwell’s novel “1984,” hinting at a theme in the show of government surveillance. The show will take place in a summer camp. Fans are already finding costuming, filming and graphic symbols of classic 80s slasher films like Friday The 13th.
