The former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will be honored with this year’s “Realizing the Dream Award” at the Southern Christian Leadership Conference in Atlanta.
What We Know:
- Clinton will be presented with the award at SCLC Women’s Empowerment Luncheon July 19.
- Southern Christian Leadership Conference President Charles Steele stated “Mrs. Clinton has been close to us ever since I have been president of SCLC…She has always been supportive of the work that we do and has always been a good role model.”
- With the 2020 election approaching, this will be a major appearance for her. Steele invited several of the candidates to speak at the convention, but none have confirmed.
- “We don’t want to make the convention too political, but we are always open to them,” Steele said.
- The theme of the meeting is “Maintaining the Global Village: Housing, Health and Our Common Humanity.” Along with saluting civil rights legends and individuals fighting poverty, the organization is slated to release plans for a new program to provide affordable housing in neglected areas in the United States.
