Hotel Employee Refuses to Book a Room for a Woman who called him a Ni***r

*WARNING: Explicit language below

Craig Brooks politely declined service to a woman for calling him a racial slur over the phone.

What We Know:

  • Brooks works for Holiday Inn Express in Austin, TX. On Sunday, June 2nd, Brooks posted a video of his interaction with a racist customer at the hotel. Brooks had taken an over the phone reservation for the woman and overheard her say “that fucking nigger” before ending the call. Management had been notified of the comment and gave Brooks the approval to deny her a room and recommend alternative accommodations.
  • In the video, the unidentified woman can be heard begging to be allowed to stay in the hotel. Her reasoning is that she was having a bad day due to the death of her mother. The rest of her family were already checked into the same hotel. Brooks responded to the woman’s begging politely. “You called me a fucking nigger. You weren’t sorry when you said it over the phone…in the climate we live in, in today’s society…its above me now.”
  • Brooks posted the video on his Twitter and Instagram. The video has already gone viral. It has been favorited over 500,000 times and has been retweeted over 100,000 times. The phrase “its above me now” is also trending. Many users on social media have been creating memes of Brooks and the phrase.
  • Unfortunately Brooks is now being called out for his anti-trans remarks made on Twitter in 2017. Q. Allan Brocka found Brooks old tweets and retweeted them. Brooks tweeted “I don’t think trans people should be apart of the LGB community because Trans people don’t identify as gay people.” He has also made comments in support of Trump’s ban of the trans community from the military. These remarks are odd sense Brooks identifies as a member of the LGBTQ community.

Brooks has since posted an apology on Facebook.
