Stacey Abrams Planning a Trip to LA to Meet with Hollywood Execs

Former Democrat candidate Stacey Abrams is expected to meet with Hollywood executives on June 11 and convince them not to boycott Georgia amid the “heartbeat” law. She will be joined by the president NARAL Pro-Choice America, Ilyse Hogue.

What We Know:

  • Abrams’ rival, Governor Brian Kemp, postponed his annual visit to LA due to threats of protests and no-shows. Kemp has been under fire since signing off on a law that would ban abortions after six weeks of pregnancy.
  • Major studios such as Netflix, Disney, and Warner Media,  pledged to leave Georgia if the bill is enacted.
  • Abrams started the “#StayAndFight” movement to encourage Hollywood leaders to fight abortion laws or donate to candidates or group challenging the law instead of leaving.
  • Former CBS chairwoman Nina Tassler sent the invite to Hoge and Abrams to discuss the “reality that employees in the state may not have full access to healthcare or the freedom to make decisions about their futures and their families.”
  •  The boycott would affect more than 90,000 people who work in the industry in the state. Along with over 300 companies that have relocated to or expanded in the state.

The abortion law is set to take effect in January 2020 if it’s not blocked in court.
