On Friday, May 24th, actor Jon Voight posted two videos on his Twitter sharing his support and praise for Donald Trump.

What We Know:

  • In light of the 2020 presidential race, Voight addressed his fellow Republicans on a video he posted on Twitter. He praised all the hard work Trump has been doing in hopes of raising support for Trump’s 2020 presidential campaign.
  • In the video, Voight explained how “our country is stronger, safer, and with more jobs” thanks to Trump’s presidency. He even compared Trump to Abraham Lincoln. “Let us stand with our president, let us stand for this truth that President Trump is the greatest president since Abraham Lincoln.”
  • This is not the first time Jon Voight has compared Trump to Lincoln. He also gave a speech at Trump’s 2017 inauguration which was held at the Lincoln Memorial. “President Lincoln, who sits here with us, I’m sure is smiling knowing America will be saved by an honest and good man, no matter their creed or color.” It is also not the first time he has posted a video on his Twitter supporting Trump.
  • Voight has gotten both positive and negative responses on his Twitter post. President himself even commented on Voight’s videos. Despite spelling his name, Trump posted “Thank you John, so nice!” Among those in opposition of Voight’s remarks is actress/activist Alyssa Milano. Milano posted on her Twitter, “Stay in your lane, Jon!” and called Voight an “F-lister trying to stay relevant.”
  • Jon Voight (80) is an accomplished actor. He first gained recognition for his role as Joe Buck in Midnight Cowboy (1969). He won an Oscar for best actor for his role in Coming Home (1978). He has also starred in Mission Impossible, Zoolander, and Transformers. In addition to his film roles, he also starred in the TV series 24 and the Showtime series Ray Donovan.

This past March, Trump announced that Voight would be the trustee of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts until 2024.
