Harvey Weinstein reached a $44 million settlement with the women who accused him of sexual misconduct, the New York Attorney General, and creditors of his old studio, The Weinstein Company (TWC).
What We Know:
- Negotiations between the lawyers representing the women and Weinstein’s legal team have been in motion for over a year. In October 2017, the investigation by the Times revealed he had sexually harassed and abused numerous women over several decades.
- Weinstein is facing criminal charges in New York for allegations of sexual assault against two women.
- Since initial allegations, more than 80 women have made complaints of sexual harassment against Weinstein though he plead not guilty.
- The proposed settlement has yet to be finalized, however, $30 million would go towards the accusers, creditors of his former studio and former TWC employees, according to The New York Times. The remaining $14 million would go towards paying off legal fees.
- The Times also reported that insurance policies would cover the $44 million once the agreement is finalized.
TWC, which Weinstein owned with his brother, Bob Weinstein, filed for bankruptcy in March 2018.
