Will Smith and Queen Latifah plan to produce a hip-hop musical version of Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet for Netflix.
What We Know:
- The film is set to be a contemporary version of Romeo & Juliet. It will follow “a young waitress from the streets of Brooklyn and an aspiring musician from a wealthy family whose unconventional romance forces them to confront their life choices,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
- Solvan “Slick” Naim is set to direct the film. Naim took to Instagram to share the good news. “Humbled and grateful to @netflix and the whole team behind this amazing project,” he said. Naim is the creator of It’s Bruno, a new Netflix series. He has also directed episodes for shows like Power, The Get Down and Animal Kingdom.
- This will not be Smith and Latifah’s first time working together. Smith is responsible for Latifah’s first job on television with her guest appearance on Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
- Smith has been busy with a few other projects as well, such as Aladdin, Gemini Man, and doing voiceover work for Spies in Disguise. Bad Boys for Life is set to release on January 17, 2020.
