UPDATES: Damar Hamlin’s Rep Clarifies He Was Only Resuscitated Once, Recovery Moving In Positive Direction + Large Donations From NFLers Pour In As Fake Fundraising Pages Appear

Damar Hamlin’s recovery is moving in a “positive direction” after the Buffalo Bills safety collapsed and went into cardiac arrest during Monday’s night game, according to a rep.  Get the latest on his condition, plus details about fellow NFL players making huge donations to his foundation, and what the NFL plans to do about the game that was suspended inside…

A representative for Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin has given an update on his condition, and thankfully it’s a good one.

Damar Hamlin’s recovery is moving in a “positive direction” two days after the 24-year-old collapsed and went into cardiac arrest on the field during a Monday night game against the Cincinnati Bengals. He was rushed to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center and was listed in critical condition.

According to Jordon Rooney, a family spokesperson and Damar’s marketing representative, he’s on the up and up.

“We all remain optimistic,” Jordon told The Associated Press via phone. He said he couldn’t go into further detail at the request of his family, but they’re hopeful he’ll pull through. Doctors at the hospital got “promising readings that they had been hoping to see,” ESPN’s Coley Harvey reported.

The latest update comes on the heels of an update from Damar’s uncle, Dorrian Glenn. According to his uncle, doctors lowered the level of oxygen Damar needs from 100% to 50%, which is a good sign.

“He’s still sedated right now,” Dorrian said in an interview with KHOU11. “They just want him to have a better chance of recovering better. So, they feel that if he’s sedated, his body can heal a lot faster than if he was woke and possibly cause other complications.”

He talked about how Damar’s little brother (pictured above) got upset after he saw Damar collapse and then everyone in the room began crying.

”I never cried so hard in my life. Just to know that my nephew basically died and they brought him back to life. It’s just heartbreaking,” he said.

Doctors put Damar on a ventilator to relieve stress on his lungs, which have been damaged. Glenn said doctors “flipped over on his stomach” in the hospital to help with the blood on his lungs.

Damar’s uncle shared the Bills safety was resuscitated twice, but the family’s spokesperson said that “isn’t exactly true.”

“There’s a lot of medical jargon, a lot of things being said, so Damar’s only been resuscitated once,” Jordon said. He added, “His uncle’s incredibly supportive of his, of his nephew…I think that you know, he just wanted to do his part to share some good news and I think just misspoke.”

“He’s working to get better,” Jordon told Entertainment Tonight about Damar’s recovery. “I think there’s still a lot that that’s up in the air that we can’t come out publicly with a statement ’til we know what exactly is going on. It’s honestly a day-by-day thing. We’re just monitoring it each day to see where he’s at.”

Vigils were held in Cincinnati and in front of the Bills’ home stadium as players and supporters from all over the NFL came together to show their support for Damar.

Following Damar’s cardiac arrest, his GoFundMe for his inaugural toy drive, hosted by his Chasing M’s Foundation, has raised over $6.3 million! He organized the fundraiser in December 2020 with an original goal of $2,500. Damar’s team shared an update on the GoFundMe page, thanking everyone for their generosity.

Here’s the update via the foundation’s GoFundMe:

This fundraiser was initially established to support a toy drive for Damar’s community, sponsored by the Chasing M’s Foundation. However, it has received renewed support in light of Damar’s current battle and we can’t thank all of you enough. Your generosity and compassion mean the world to us.

As representatives of Damar, the team at Jaster Athletes posted the fundraiser updates and will work with the Hamlin family, The Chasing M’s Foundation, and the GoFundMe team to ensure the safe delivery of funds.

Damar created The Chasing M’s Foundation to use as a vehicle to bring lasting impact to his community. The foundation supports toy drives, back-to-school drives, kids camps, and more. We’re hopeful about Damar’s future involvement in disbursing the incredibly generous contributions.

This is the only current fund that is being used by the Hamlin Family. We appreciate your understanding as we give them the time and space they need to focus on Damar’s health first.

Again, thank you for your thoughts, prayers and support during this time.

You can donate here.

Athletes, celebrities, and sports fans have come together to offer support and prayers for the Buffalo Bills safety, as well as money for his foundation. Broncos QB Russell Wilson and his wife Ciara gave one of the top donations of $10,000. Hanold Associates CEO Jason Hanold was listed as the top donor with $20,000 contributed. Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford donated $12,000 and Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady donated $10,000.

Sometimes tragedy brings out the worse in people. People are trying to capitalize on Damar’s tragic injury by setting up fake GoFundMe campaigns portraying the NFL player. The online platform is aware of this and told TMZ its already taking action against anyone who creates a fake fundraiser.

Terrible.

As for the suspended Week 17 game between the Bills and the Bengals, it remains unclear when (or if) the remainder of the game will be played. The Cincinnati Bengals held a 7-3 lead in the first quarter when play was suspended.

Damar Hamlin, 24, went into cardiac arrest after being hit during the Buffalo Bills’ “Monday Night Football” game against the Cincinnati Bengals. On the field, medical professionals performed CPR for nine minutes, which resulted in his heartbeat being restored. Players openly wept as medical professionals worked on Damar.

After his heartbeat was restored on the field, he was transferred to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center (a Level 1 trauma center) for additional testing and treatment.

The Buffalo Bills selected Damar Hamlin, a Pittsburgh native, in the sixth round of the 2021 draft. He was only allowed to play on special teams during his rookie season. In Week 3, he replaced veteran Micah Hyde, who is still out due to a neck injury.

Prayers for a speedy recovery!
