A Christmas miracle happened after a chance encounter outside of an Indianapolis gas station, reuniting a missing Ohio twin with his family. Two Black heroic women did some detective work and found the woman who kidnapped the baby boy. Find out how they cracked the case inside…
A Christmas miracle happened just days before families gathered together to celebrate the holiday.
A missing 5-month-old Ohio baby boy was found days after he was kidnapped thanks to two Black women who went over and beyond to locate the missing child. The police were investigating, but it took the actions of two brave Black women to locate the child and put the woman who kidnapped him behind bars.
It turns out that a chance encounter with the kidnapper outside of an Indianapolis gas station is what led to the child’s rescue.
On December 19th, 5-month-old Kason Thomas went missing in Columbus, Ohio, with his twin brother, Kyair Thomas, when a woman stole their mother’s running car with them in the back seat. The mother was picking up a DoorDash order at Donatos Pizza in the Short North.
Hours after the children were kidnapped, Kyair was found by a passerby early Tuesday morning in the parking lot of the Dayton International Airport.

Shyann Delmar, an Indianapolis resident, said she bought toys from a woman who was standing outside of a northwest Indianapolis gas station Tuesday, a day after the kidnapping. After purchasing the items, Shyann agreed to give the woman who called herself Mae, a ride to a Family Dollar store down the street.
HAPPENING NOW:

After seeing several mugshots of Nalah T. Jackson, 24, on Facebook, Shyann looked at her video of the mystery woman from the day before. She noticed similarities, but she didn’t want to jump to conclusions, so she solicited feedback from her family and friends.

After the encounter, Shyann shared the story and a video she’d taken of the woman with her cousin, Mecka Curry. The two cousins realized the woman looked similar to the Columbus, Ohio, kidnapping suspect being shown in the news. The women, both 27, decided to lean in on their motherly intuitions and do some investigating of their own. And thank God they did.
Once they were convinced the woman in Shyann’s videos was the woman who was wanted by police, they decided to come up with plan to get “Mae” to the authorities.
Shyann and the woman exchanged phone numbers during their car ride, and Shyann said she received a call from “Mae” about purchasing more items later that day. At first, Shyann didn’t answer the phone because she wasn’t sure what to do with her newfound knowledge. However, she called her back about the purchases on Thursday morning.
Shyann and the woman agreed to meet at a house, and Shyann, who was already convinced that the woman in the news was the suspect, brought her cousin, Mecka, along. That’s when their plan was executed.
The IndyStar reports:
Delmar and Curry said they came up with a plan to take the woman to a store and call police to arrest her there so they wouldn’t be traced as the people who called her in. First the cousins called Columbus police, who told them to call the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. When they called Indianapolis police, the women struggled to get the point across that they believed Jackson was in their car.
They got frustrated and hung up, and took the woman to several more stores hoping she would shoplift and draw authorities’ attention. They worried taking her to a police station might cause her to run.
Curry said throughout the shopping trips, she made calls to detectives trying to relay all the information she received from her cousin about their belief “Mae” was the suspected kidnapper.
At one point the police called while the women were in the car, the cousins said. Not wanting to tip off the woman, Curry said she pretended to be talking to a friend and indicated they were driving on I-65 south. The women said police found their car and conducted a traffic stop. “Mae” at that point went quiet, the women said. Curry said a police officer initially seemed skeptical about whether it was Jackson, and said they should take her to a shelter.
Curry said she showed police a screenshot of Jackson’s mugshot and after comparing the woman in the car, the officer decided she did in fact appear to be Jackson and took her into custody about 2 p.m. Thursday.
The cousins’ actions leading to the traffic stop were commended by detectives in Columbus investigating the case.
Now that the woman was captured, they had to find the baby! And they knew they were racing against time since a major winter storm was heading their way.
The site reports:
Aware that temperatures were about to plunge into subzero territory, the cousins knew they had to turn their attention to finding the baby. In the back seat they found their first clue: “Mae” had left behind a bus schedule.
Since the stolen Honda that Jackson is accused of driving also was missing, they decided to trace the bus route and look for vehicles covered in snow that would indicate the car hadn’t moved in a while. At that point, a dangerous winter storm was on the brink of reaching Indianapolis and snow had started falling.
The cousins went to the stops on the bus schedule to see if they could locate the vehicle the woman stole.
The woman were about to give up, and were getting hungry. They were about to eat at a Papa John’s on Indiana Avenue when they noticed a Honda in a snow-covered parking lot.

Mecka said she ran to the car and saw baby legs in the back seat and the baby’s face in the rearview mirror, and her heart started racing because she knew it had to be the vehicle. She feared the worst after hearing no sound from the back car door. She said she saw two officers inside a nearby Blaze Pizza and rushed over to tell them about the baby.
“At that point, we didn’t believe we really did this. We really did the unthinkable,” Mecka said.
A photo is worth a thousand words.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department tweeted Kason Thomas had been found on Thursday at 9:24pm, alongside a picture of Sgt. Shawn Anderson holding baby Kason inside a Papa Johns.
”A photo is worth a thousand words,” the IMPD tweeted. “The IMPD is thankful that Kason Thomas was found earlier this evening. We would like to thank the IMPD Officers and Detectives who worked to track down the baby and suspect. We would like to thank community members who helped in locating him.”
Yeah, they definitely posted typos in that announcement. Shyann and Mecka should get all the credit in finding this baby!
When the child’s family learned he had been found, they celebrated in a Lowes parking lot. The family had gathered there for a press conference to address Kason’s kidnapping.

Nalah Jackson, 24, was arrested and charged with two counts of kidnapping. Later, she was charged with another crime after allegedly spitting on an Indiana sheriff’s deputy while being booked.
On Saturday, Nalah made her first court appearance for a level six felony charge of battery bodily waste. She continued to use foul language despite being asked to stop, and the Marion County Magistrate abruptly ended the hearing.
WBNS reports:
Jackson was escorted to a video monitor during the hearing, handcuffed with a deputy on each arm. When the magistrate asked if her name was Nalah Jackson, Jackson responded, “Are you talking to me as a person or a slave?”
The magistrate answered, “I’m speaking to you as a person.” She then asked her name again.
Jackson gave the name, “Josphis Hunt.” When asked if she understood her rights, Jackson responded by saying, “no… yes… no… I’m pleading guilty. Just go ahead and sentence me.”
During the remote hearing, the Marion County Magistrate set Jackson’s bond at $500, and told Jackson that even if the bond is met, she would not be released due to a hold on the State of Ohio for two counts of kidnapping.
After her hearing for battery bodily waste, Jackson began yelling expletives toward the magistrate, prompting the end of the hearing. The magistrate told her clerk that they technically didn’t get through the hearing and the judge for the upcoming hearing on Dec. 27 will need to redo the initial hearing.
Lord.
