Dear White People‘s Teyonah Parris is making her debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as adult Monica Rambeau in Marvel’s upcoming series WandaVision.
What We Know:
- Marvel Studios announced the news at Comic-Con this past weekend. Parris will be joining MCU veterans Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), and Paul Bettany (Vision). The series follows Wanda Maximoff aka Scarlet Witch and Vision and will be set in the 1950s. The series will take place after the events of Endgame.
- Monica Rambeau was introduced in Captain Marvel, which was played by child actress Akira Akbar in the 1990s. In comic books, she made contact with the Avengers and was welcomed onto the team then became Captain Marvel. Fans also knew Rambeau as Pulsar, Photon, and Spectrum.
- Rambeau gained her powers when she was accidentally struck by a scientist’s energy-altering machine, which enabled her to “convert her own body into energy and back again at will.” Rambeau’s only two power include interdimensional travel and energy manipulation.
- Olsen told Variety the six-episode series will pull from other comic books. “It’s gonna be Wanda and the Vision and I think at the Disney+ launch chat, they showed a photo of us in the ‘50s, and I think that’s a good teaser,” Olsen said. “It’s gonna be really fun. I’m really excited.”
- Kevin Feige shared that the series will be “unlike anything Marvel has ever done before.” During a Disney+ unveiling event in April, he said, “Over the course of the 23 films, we’ve pulled together a roster of amazing actors and talented filmmakers, and we’re excited to continue to work with these individuals.”
WandaVision is set to debut in spring 2021 exclusively on Disney+. The streaming service will go live November 12.
