If you’re in Manhattan then chances are you’re in the dark right now.

What We Know:

  • Con Edison is reporting at least 27,000 customers are out of power currently with police receiving several calls of dark subway stations, traffic lights out, and people stuck in elevators.
  • The outage is currently said to be impacting parts of the Upper West Side between 50th and 70th Streets and Midtown Manhattan with reports as far east as 5th Avenue.  See the current outage map here.
  • “We’re getting reports of power outages in station complexes throughout Manhattan,” the Metropolitan Transportation Authority said on Twitter. “We’re working to identify causes and keep trains moving.”
  • The NYPD, FDNY, and NYCT are all working with ConEd on various reports of outage issues as ConEd investigates the root cause and works on restoring service.
  • We will keep updates coming as they are reported in.

Update: We are working with Con Edison to determine the root cause of the ongoing power failure, which is affecting Midtown and the Upper West Side.
