The trailer for the Whitney Houston biopic, I Wanna Dance With Somebody, is here. And it looks GOOD. Watch Naomi Ackie transform into the late singer inside…
A biopic centered around Whitney Houston’s singing career is set to drop. And the first trailer has piqued our interest.
Actress Naomi Ackie (“Master Of None,” “The End Of The F*cking World”) transforms into Whitney Houston for the upcoming biopic, I Wanna Dance With Somebody. Instead of totally focusing on her personal life, this biopic will celebrate her legacy and show her rise to global stardom.
”From New Jersey choir girl to one of the best-selling and most awarded recording artists of all time, audiences are taken on an inspirational, poignant—and so emotional—journey through Houston’s trailblazing life and career,” the official synopsis for the film teased.
In the trailer, it shows a young Whitney delivering a stellar performance in front of music exec Clive Davis, who is played by Stanley Tucci.
“I might’ve just heard the greatest voice of her generation,” Clive said in the clip.
The film is written by Anthony McCarten, who wrote the hit 2018 Freddie Mercury biopic “Bohemian Rhapsody.” It’s being produced by Clive Davis and the singer’s manager/sister-in-law, Patricia “Pat” Houston (on behalf of the Houston Estate). It’s directed by Kasi Lemmons (HARRIET).
Since the biopic is backed by Whitney’s estate, several of the six-time Grammy winner’s hits will be featured in the film, including her epic Super Bowl performance of the National Anthem.
Before her untimely death in 2012 at the age of 48, Whitney Houston sold more than 200 million records worldwide through her 25-year career. She also copped six Grammy Awards throughout her career and brought us classic hits like “I Will Always Love You,” “Saving All My Love for You,” “ I Wanna Dance With Somebody” and “How Will I Know,” to name a few.
