Singer/Actress Halle Bailey is dishing on her love life with rapper boyfriend DDG where she lets the world know that it’s a “for sure” thing between them. Go inside to find out what else the 22-year-old entertainer said about her beau, plus her gorgeous ESSENCE cover alongside her sister Chlöe inside….
You likely know her as Beyonce’s protege and one half of hit group Chloe x Halle, but there’s MUCH more the masses don’t know about Halle Bailey.
Landing “IT” acting roles like Ariel in the upcoming live-action The Little Mermaid, her career is taking off and she’s booked and busy.
So is her personal life.
Gracing the cover of ESSENCE magazine’s September/October 2022 issue alongside her sister Chlöe, the 22-year-old singer/actress opened up for the first time about her relationship with rapper/YouTuber DDG. She shared she was a fan of his YouTube account and when she learned he did music, it was almost like a match made in heaven.
”I grew up being on YouTube and would always see the young Black creators and was constantly inspired by them. He was one of them,” she “shared. “I completely forgot about him,” she continued with a laugh. “But then I saw that he was dropping music, and I really gravitated toward this one song. Coincidentally he messaged me—and the rest is history.”
Just mentioning him makes her blush. When asked if she’s in love, she answered (with no hesitation), “Yes. For sure I am.”
Cute.
It’s not totally clear when Halle and DDG made it official, however, the 24-year-old rapper confirmed their romantic relationship when he posted up a birthday tribute to Halle on Instagram back in March. Rumors first started when they were seen together at Usher’s Las Vegas residency back in January.
Also in the interview, The Little Mermaid star talked about how fiercely loyal she is when it comes to her family and friends.
“I’m a fire sign,” she explained. “I’m a protector of my family. If I love you and somebody crosses you, it’s over. That’s been my stance since I was young.”
Not only that, she’s not afraid to say exactly how she feels. She’s also about her business—and, contrary to popular belief, she’s not shying away from being sexy.
These days, she embracing – what she calls – her “woman body”—a rite of passage for Black girls as they settle into their early twenties.
“Finally, I’m 22 years old, and some of the weight is sticking, and I’m happy about it,” she said gleefully. “Chlöe has the booty, and I’m getting some cleavage.”
YAS! Totally here for body acceptance.
While she’s head over heels in love, she isn’t neglecting her love for music.
“My business and my work life are the priority, because at the end of the day I want my family and my future children to have a beautiful life. Love is great, and love feels wonderful—but never neglect your work,” she said.
She def sees children in her future and living a simple life with her family. However, she wants to make a few incredible accomplishments first.
“I want to have like 10 babies and go live on a farm and have a great house,” she said. “I wanna grow my own food and have an oasis away from the world, where my family and I go and have a great time.” But before that, she wants Grammys, Oscars and everything in between. “My first love is music,” she shared, when asked if she prefers acting or singing. “That’s where I feel my most free—but it’s really been a beautiful experience with acting as well.”
Love it.
Growing up in the public eye can be hard with everyone having an opinion about everything, however, she’s drowning out the noise and living her life as she sees fit.
“People have seen me grow up, so of course they might have something to say about how I feel or what I do with my life,” she says. “I just choose not to read it. I ignore the naysayers and follow my own heart and intuition.”
