Idris Elba’s ‘BEAST’ Role Caused Friction With His Daughter Isan, ‘My Daughter Didn’t Talk To Me For About Three Weeks’

Idris Elba gets candid about how his new role in survival thriller BEAST caused some friction between him and his daughter, Isan Elba. Find out why inside…

Being the child of a Hollywood star comes with its perks, but that doesn’t mean everything is going to be handed to you on a silver platter.

Idris Elba teamed up with Will Packer for an upcoming survival thriller, BEAST. In the film, the British actor plays the lead role of Dr. Nate Daniels, a father ferociously trying to protect his two daughters. Idris’ real-life daughter, Isan Elba, thought she would be perfect for the role, so she decided to audition.

Unfortunately for her, she didn’t land the role, which resulted in the 20-year-old aspiring actress to stop speaking to her father for weeks.

During a recent interview on “The Breakfast Club,” Idris and Will Packer sat down with the radio hosts to dish on their new thriller and why Isan wasn’t chosen to play one of Idris’ daughters in the film.

While she gave a stellar audition, the father-daughter on-screen chemistry wasn’t right for the film.

”She auditioned and it came down to chemistry in the end,” Idris explained. “The relationship in the film and the relationship between my daughter was…the chemistry wasn’t right for film,” he admitted. “Weirdly enough. My daughter didn’t talk to me for about three weeks.”

Aww!

”She was actually really good, Will interjected before revealing he was the person who called her to let her know she didn’t land the role.

”I called and talked to her, ’cause I’ve known her for a very long time, you know what I mean,” Will said. “I’m like ‘Uncle Will.’ That’s like my little niece, you know, and she’s amazing.”

The famed director Idris props for wanting the best for his daughter, but being hard on her.

“Idris was definitely like ‘Listen, I want her – put her through the ropes.’ He auditioned with her, he was very tough on her, he said, ‘Listen, at the end of the day we’re going to make the best decision for the movie,” Will explained. “I trust you, Will, trust the director,’ and she was very good, very close.”

Despite not landing the role, Idris said his daughter was still gracious for the experience and that he’s proud of her.

“We got through that you know and I’m really proud of her to go through that, not get the role, but still come to the premiere,” Idris said.
