“When we saw Ukrainian and Russian asylum seekers at the border, the U.S. and Mexico worked quickly to get them to safety…It would be nice to see the government at the state and federal level respond in a similar fashion to asylum seekers who are not white,” said Ari Sawyer, U.S. border researcher at Human Rights Watch.
