Former NFL tight end, Kellen Winslow Jr., was convicted of raping a 58 year old woman and two other misdemeanors.
What We Know:
- Winslow (35) has been on trial on rape and the charges. Five women have came forward an testified against Winslow for separate incidences. A 58 year old homeless woman stated that Winslow raped her in May 2018. That same month, a 57 year old woman stated that Winslow exposed himself to her. He has been accused of raping a 54 year old hitchhiker in March 2018. A 77 year old woman accused Winslow of committing a lewd act, like touching himself, in front of her in February 2019. After all these reports, another woman came forward and stated Winslow raped her when she was 17 years old in 2003.
- On June 10, a jury convicted Winslow of raping the the 58 year old woman. He was also convicted of the misdemeanors for indecent exposure and committing a lewd act in public. These charges will have Winslow facing up to nine years in prison.
- The judge called a mistrial on the remaining eight charges. If Winslow is convicted of raping all three woman in the retrial, then he can face up to life in prison. Jury selection for the retrial will start in September.
- According to Winslow’s former teammates and coaches, this is not the first time he’s exhibited questionable behavior. On trips, his teammates refused to sit next to him on a plane or share a hotel room with him. Winslow was known to watch porn on his DVD player or on his phone whenever. He was also open about masturbating and did it regardless of who may see him. He even traveled with a life-size silicone sex doll.
Kellen Winslow’s attorney asked the judge to release him with a GPS tracker but that motion was denied and Winslow will remain in jail for the time being.
