What We Know:
- Malcolm John Rebennack, known by his stage name, Dr. John, passed away Thursday after having a heart attack.
- A statement posted on his personal Twitter account confirmed his death. The post described the musician as a “songwriter, composer, producer, and performer” Continuing, “he created a unique blend of music which carried his home town, New Orleans, at its’ heart, as it was always in his heart.”
- The 77-year-old was a six-time Grammy winner. Some of his popular songs include “Right Place Wrong Time, “Such a Night” and “Curious George Theme Song.” His music combined jazz and rock and was heavily influenced by voodoo. Rolling Stone put together a list of his essential songs.
- Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
