Investigators in Mexico have just discovered 3,787 bone fragments at the home of a suspected serial killer.
What We Know:
- The bones found are believed to belong to 17 different victims. Prosecutors in the state of Mexico have implied that the new findings may increase in size as the investigation continues. They announced their discovery in a statement obtained by the Associated Press on Saturday.
- Authorities originally began investigating on May 14th by searching the house of an alleged killer. The house belonged to a 72-year-old man called Andres. The search was initiated after Andres was arrested for allegedly killing a 34-year-old woman. The woman’s body was found dismembered with a butcher’s hacksaw.
- The full identity of Andres cannot be released under Mexican law. Andres is from the municipality of Atizapan de Zaragoza, near Mexico City. Investigators started excavations on the hoe and dug up the floors of the suspect’s house. They are now searching below other rooms on the property that Andres rents out.
- Along with the fragments, investigators have also found 10 cards and other possessions from people who disappeared in the area years ago. Police have also found 91 photographs, eight cellphones, women’s jewelry, and videotapes. Authorities believe they contain footage of the man filming the victims. Prosecutors revealed that Andres was a butcher, and evidence suggests that the suspect cut up the victims into tiny pieces before hiding the evidence underneath the rooms in his house.
Andres was caught because his last victim was the wife of a police commander that he knew personally.
