The 19-year-old suspect was a former employee and died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
What We Know:
- The shooting occurred on Thursday night and claimed the lives of eight people as well as injuring several others. The shooter, Brandon Hole, was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. According to authorities, Hole was using a rifle. Officers arrived at the FedEx facility just after 11 pm.
- Authorities revealed that four victims were found outside, and four more were found inside. Their ages ranged from 19 to 74 years old. The victims were identified the next day by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. Deputy Chief of Criminal Investigations Craig McCartt revealed the Hole last worked at FedEx in 2020.
- Police working on the case have revealed that there isn’t a known motive in regards to the shooting. Additionally, there is no indication that the shooting is connected to terrorism. Authorities detail that Hole was previously placed on an immediate detention mental health temporary hold by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department last year. Hole’s mother had contacted law enforcement after he tried to commit suicide last March 2020.
- Subsequently, a shotgun was taken from Hole’s home, and the FBI interviewed him in April 2020. About 100 employees were in the perimeter of the FedEx facility at the time of the shooting. FedEx released a statement on Friday morning, “We are deeply shocked and saddened by the loss of our team members following the tragic shooting at our FedEx Ground facility in Indianapolis.” The shipping company informed ABC News that the shooting impacted no COVID-19 vaccine shipments.
President Joe Biden ordered White House Flags to be lowered to half-staff in response to the shooting. He’s repeated this action previously with other recent shootings as well.
