Elizabeth Grisby was working for DoorDash delivery service when her vehicle was stolen with her 1-year-old daughter sleeping inside.
What We Know:
- Allegedly the two suspects jumped into Grisby’s SUV as she made a delivery around 2 a.m. Elizabeth tried to chase down the suspects but they did not stop. Grisby explained to authorities that her daughter, Royalty Grisby, usually sleeps in the car while she works. Later on, police found Elizabeth’s car and detained one of the suspects by the name of Malachi Richardson.
- Grisby informed reporters that her vehicle was keyless, and although she left her car running, she kept her key fob in her pocket during the delivery. Push-to-start vehicles use a transmitter inside of the key fob to detect when the keys are inside the vehicle. Without the key fob inside the vehicle, the engine will not start. It explains why the car was found abandoned and how 14-year-old Richardson was able to drive away so quickly. Richardson is currently in custody facing charges of kidnapping and theft by taking a vehicle.
- Investigators believe the incident was a setup and authorities have since recovered Royalty on Thursday afternoon. Royalty was missing for 13 hours before being reunited with her mother. Royalty was discovered on the front porch of a home on Stoneleigh Hill Road by a passerby. The passerby called 911 and notified the homeowner, Anna Henderson, and informed them that a baby was crying on their front porch.
- Dekalb County Police Chief M.V Ramos revealed that the child was taken to a local hospital for evaluation before being given back to Grisby. The investigation is still ongoing and police have posted a reward of $2,000 for any more information regarding the case. Royalty was found, but there are still questions surrounding the circumstances of her return.
It appears as though the amber alert for Royalty was lifted when she was found and it still remains unclear if Elizabeth Grisby was intentionally targeted.
