A minor was arrested last week in connection to multiple attempted armed carjackings.
What We Know:
- Washington D.C. police reported that the incident began last Thursday at around 6:30 pm in Northeast Washington when two male carjackers began approaching drivers with a handgun and telling them to exit their vehicles.
- NBC News reported that the first three attempts to steal a car were unsuccessful when the victims refused to comply and fled the scene. The Metropolitan Police Department records show that the first attempt was made on the 1900 block of 2nd Street, the second on 300 block of V Street, and the third attempt on the 2000 block of 4th Street. On their fourth attempt in under an hour, the carjackers were able to drive away in a woman’s car on V Street Northeast driving towards Rhode Island Avenue.
- Police have identified three of the victims. Two of the carjacking victims were rideshare drivers responding to a customer request and a third victim was a delivery driver. The fourth victim has yet to be identified. None of the victims were injured.
- On the same day, police were able to recover the stolen vehicle and make an arrest for a 12-year-old boy from Southeast Washington who was charged with four counts of armed carjacking. The case remains an active investigation as the police search for the second suspect, who was recorded on a surveillance camera.
