After years of amazing service, one Taco Bell employee received a surprisingly generous tip.
What We Know:
- 70-year-old employee Joe Decicco has worked the Taco Bell drive-thru in South Daytona, Florida for nearly 20 years. His regular customers refer to him fondly as “Taco Bell Joe”.
- According to WCJB News, Joe was recently entered in a Facebook competition, created by Tricia Phillippi, that supported local restaurants and staff during the pandemic. Voters in the Facebook group determined that Joe would be the winner of a $50 prize, or so they thought.
- Then, an outpour of support for “Taco Bell Joe” quickly led to thousands of donations. After the viral nomination, community members were able to surprise Joe at work with a giant check worth $6,095.
- The fan-favorite, nominated by Sydney Cichon, was said to “[bring] a smile to everybody’s face”. One donor, Raj Gohill, told reporters, “You could have the worst day, but by the time you get through the drive-through there, you’re just smiling.”
- Joe Decicco was honored to have received such a generous reward. He told the NY Daily News, “It’s my customers that I owe this to. They bring out the best in me. It’s them. I couldn’t do it without your help. And I’m going to do my best to live up to it. And spark a light, a little candle in every heart of every person that I meet.”
Congratulations Joe, you deserve it!
