‘This is Us’ Renewed for Three More Seasons

NBC’s award-winning family drama has been renewed for another three seasons, each consisting of 18 episodes. The renewal was announced Sunday morning alongside NBC’s fall 2019-20 schedule.

What We Know…

  • This Is Us follows the lives and families of two parents, and their three children, in several different time frames. This is the second time the show has had a multi-season renewal, rare for a scripted series.
  • Presidents of scripted programming for NBC Entertainment, Lisa Katz and Tracey Pakosta, told Variety “In a television landscape with nearly 500 original scripted series, there are very few, if any, that have the critical and cultural impact of ‘This Is Us’ and we couldn’t be more proud to bring fans three more seasons of a show that so well represents the NBC brand.”

The renewal will keep the series running through 2022, but according to creator Dan Fogelman, the series will most likely end at season six. When asked if the show would end, NBC co-chairman Paul Telegdy  said, “We’re keeping it open for now.”

  • In the upcoming seasons, fans can expect to see a lot more flashbacks and the 12-year-old Pearson’s to be portrayed more. The season is also expected to address the strain in Randall and Beth’s relationship.
  • Since its debut in 2016, the ‘dramedy’  has received 17 Emmy award nominations, two Screen Actors Guild Awards, three AFI Awards, as well as Brown’s Emmy win, a Golden Globe, and SAG Awards trophy for his performance as Randall Pearson.

This Is Us will likely finish up with 108 total episodes in total. The release date of the new season has not been announced yet but is expected to return in September 2019.
