In an interview with CBS, former president Barack Obama revealed his intentions with working with president-elect and former vice president Joe Biden.
What We Know:
- In an interview with former President Barack Obama, CBS’ Sunday Morning Gayle King discussed Obama’s involvement with President-elect Joe Biden.
- Joe Biden was Obama’s vice president in office from 2009-2017. There has been much speculation of Obama’s involvement, especially after staying out of the spotlight during Trump’s presidency.
- Obama told CBS that he is not looking to work in the White House at this time. However, he still expressed his willingness to help Biden saying, “I will help him in any ways that I can.”
- When asked about the possibility of joining Biden’s cabinet Obama joked, “There are probably some things I would not be doing, ’cause Michelle would leave me. She’d be like, ‘What? You’re doin’ what?'”
- The former president has said that Michelle wishes to be finished with politics and its strain on her life. Obama commented, “I am mindful of the sacrifices she had made, but the good news is that for whatever reason, she has forgiven me — sort of,” he said. “She still reminds me, occasionally, of what she put up with.” Obama expressed that leaving the White House allowed Michelle to release some of her stress.
- Obama joined Biden’s campaign trail in October. During this time, he criticized President Trump’s leadership, most specifically when it came to the coronavirus pandemic.
- Obama also commented on the results of the 2020 election, believing that Biden’s win is fair despite Trump’s claims of voter fraud.
The former president’s new book, A Promised Land, releases Tuesday. In the first of two planned volumes, he reflects on his first term in the White House. He concludes with the killing of Osama bin Laden.
