As the 2020 presidential election comes to a close, some are still fighting to accept the results. While the 43rd president, George W. Bush congratulates Joe Biden for winning, the 45th president, Donald Trump, is still trying to come to terms with his loss.
What We Know:
- After the election, Trump made claims of a false victory, voter fraud, and attempted to take the election results to the Supreme Court. His claims have been deemed unsubstantiated and have not made any legal headway.
- Trump’s long time republican ally, Chris Christie commented on the president’s actions saying, “Show us. Because if you can’t show us, we can’t do this. We can’t back you blindly without evidence.” He then suggested Trump “move on” from this election and come to terms with leaving the White House.
- Former Republican president, George W. Bush released a statement offering Joe Biden and Kamala Harris “my prayers for his success, and my pledge to help in any way I can”. The statement even makes a comment on Trump’s election allegations and the importance of a legitimate election. He states, “President Trump has the right to request recounts and pursue legal challenges, and any unresolved issues will be properly adjudicated. The American people can have confidence that this election was fundamentally fair, its integrity will be upheld and its outcome is clear.” Bush then urged Americans to come together despite political backing in support of Biden and Harris in efforts to create a better nation.
For the time being, most are confident in the legitimacy of the election and the results. Until Trump can identify any form of substantiated evidence, it seems this election has reached its outcome.
