Pennsylvania’s Governor, Tom Wolf, responds to the Trump campaign’s lawsuit filed on Wednesday, which intends to cease vote counting in a key state.
What We Know:
- President Trump and his campaign have filed lawsuits in multiple states that have continued counting ballots on the day after Election Day. Prior to, a Pennsylvania judge ruled it acceptable to continue counting ballots through Friday, as long as the ballots were cast and postmarked by Election Day.
- Trump responded to this ruling by claiming it would “allow rampant and unchecked cheating and will undermine our entire systems of laws,” and warns that it will “induce violence” from protestors. The President has regularly discouraged voters from voting by mail due to alleged threats of fraud, and has convinced his supporters to doubt the validity of the process and spread misinformation.
- Governor Wolf responded to the President’s lawsuits in a press statement condemning the candidate and his campaign for denouncing the state’s ability to count votes legitimately and democratically. Gov. Wolf confirms Pennsylvania “will continue to administer free and fair elections” and that he will “fight like hell to protect the vote of every Pennsylvanian. … Because in Pennsylvania, every voice matters, every vote matters.”
As of yet, a projected winner has not been confirmed in the state, but as mail-in ballots continuing to be counted, the gap between Trump’s lead and votes for Biden is quickly thinning.
